About National Elephant Conservation Centre Kuala Gandah
The National Elephant Conservation Centre Kuala Gandah, Pahang, is a sanctuary dedicated to the preservation and care of Malaysia’s endangered Asian elephants. Established in 1989 by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN), the centre rescues and rehabilitates elephants displaced by habitat loss or those that threaten human settlements.
Visitors can learn about these majestic creatures and the challenges they face through educational programs and interactive activities. The centre offers medical care, nutrition, and a natural environment for the elephants to thrive. It also works on translocation projects, relocating elephants from conflict areas to safer habitats, thus promoting coexistence between wildlife and local communities.
With a dedicated team of conservationists and veterinarians, the centre plays a crucial role in elephant conservation and serves as an educational hub, emphasizing the importance of preserving Malaysia’s rich biodiversity.
