About Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad
Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) plays a crucial role in Malaysia’s water industry by developing and managing essential infrastructure. Since its establishment on May 5, 2006, this government-owned entity has focused on delivering a sustainable and efficient water supply. As part of the national water restructuring initiative, it enhances service quality, optimizes resources, and drives long-term industry growth.
To achieve its objectives, PAAB actively collaborates with multiple stakeholders. It designs, constructs, and maintains water infrastructure projects across Peninsular Malaysia. These projects include reservoirs, pipelines, and treatment plants. Additionally, it leads rehabilitation efforts by replacing aging pipelines, reducing water loss, and improving supply reliability. Through these initiatives, the company strengthens the nation’s water management system.
Furthermore, financial sustainability remains a key priority. Instead of depending entirely on government funding, PAAB secures financing through private financial markets. This strategy accelerates project execution while reducing reliance on public funds. After completing each project, PAAB leases water assets to licensed operators regulated by Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN). As a result, this leasing model improves operational efficiency and ensures affordable water services.
Moreover, PAAB continues expanding its infrastructure to support growing demand. It has allocated nearly RM1 billion for two new water treatment plants in Seberang Perai, Penang. Construction will begin in 2025 to provide a stable water supply for the region. This investment reflects proactive planning and a firm commitment to national water security.
By combining strategic planning, financial innovation, and infrastructure development, PAAB strengthens Malaysia’s water sector. Through continuous improvements and solid partnerships, it ensures reliable water access for residential, commercial, and industrial needs.
