What Is Video Wall?

When it comes to visual presentation, how huge the impact that you want to achieve is greatly decided by how great your display is. A qualified display needs to deliver a superb viewing experience and to engage viewers. Video wall is one of the displays that can deliver huge impact.

Multi-Screen Digital Signage

A video wall is made up of many flat panels or displays. These individual flat panels are stacked and connected together to create a composite screen display. Hence, the video wall is modular.

Modularity refers to the degree to which the flat panels may be separated and recombined. The modularity of video wall is one of its greatest advantages. It offers the flexibility in both size and shape configurations. Therefore, when we say huge, it could be hugeeee.

Digital signage is no stranger to many business owners and advertisers. It is a powerful display that can deliver engaging and attractive content. Digital signage is definitely one of the must-have tools in pursuing your business goal. However, it has a size limitation.

The common screen size of a digital signage is around 46” to 85”. Digital signage is suitable for most small-to-medium applications. However, digital signage will not meet your need if you are going to display your content in a larger format or venue, such as a stadium, large-scale trade show, concert or stage event.

Size options of a video wall can vary. It can deliver images at all sizes, from small to large. In order to have a larger video wall, we just need to combine more flat panels. Since video wall uses a PC controller or a video card controller, split-screen display is never an issue. The image can be split among a large number of flat panel screens and you can display the multiple image outputs simultaneously.

Imagine that you can display the same image from your digital signage on multiple displays, as if they are a part of a single large screen. This is why video wall is also known as a multi-screen digital signage.

Narrow Bezel Video Wall

A few years ago, one of the largest concerns when it came to screen tiling or composition was the bezel. Interest in large displays is not a new thing. Many years ago, manufacturers, engineers and business users had been finding ways to combine and to tile multiple screens together into a larger screen. Some of the media used were computer monitors, television displays, video projectors and LCD screens. A tiled large screen was possible at that time, but the thick-bezels issue created headache.

Bezel, or seam, is the thick border found between the screen and the frame of a display device. The technology at that time was not able to produce a display device with very thin edges. When these displays are tiled together, the bezels are visible and thus it creates a grid-cutting effect on the screen. These ugly and bold lines on the screen can affect the viewing experience badly.

After years of research and development, manufacturers are able to design and produce displays with very narrow bezels. Their goal is to always minimize the bezel thickness, in order to enable more display areas. Thus, the video wall technology has also experienced a great improvement since then.

Today, video wall can offer ultra-narrow bezels up to 0.44mm. The even bezel design can deliver a more seamless and smoother display. When the bezels become less visible on the screen, the image can be displayed in its true form without distortion.

Shapes & Aspect Ratio

Video wall is scalable to any shape. You can choose a custom-shaped video wall to suit your application. Due to its modularity in screen tiling, a videowall of any size and aspect ratio can be built in a creative way. You do not need to limit your design to a common square or rectangular display shape. You can also choose to display your image in either portrait or landscape orientation.

Beside the shape and the size, aspect ratio is important too when it comes to the video wall. If you are going to display 16:9 Full HD videos most of the time, a common rectangular 16:9 video wall should be your ideal choice.

It is very important to create content that suits the aspect ratio and the resolution of your video wall. But you should not worry too much if you have a good production partner. Content creator or editor can always find ways to fit your content perfectly to the screen.

Applications of Video Wall

Customization is one of the best words that we can use to describe the videowall. Due to its customization and flexibility, the video wall can be used in different occasions and venues. Video walls are commonly found in shopping malls, retail shops, concerts, universities, hospitals, meeting rooms, airports and monitoring centre.

Besides, the multi-screen displays also have unlimited possibilities in delivering impactful entertainment experience. Artists or event organizers can design and alter video walls to create eye-catching performances.

Conclusion

Video wall technology has the ability to grab viewers’ attention with its vibrant display and customized screen size. Business owners and advertisers should grab the opportunity by investing in video walls. This is definitely one of the best displays that can help you to expand your brand recognition and to reach a wider audience in a more effective way.
